M/T - 2nd to 3rd Gear Clash/Grind: Overview

MANUAL TRANSAXLE 2ND TO 3RD SHIFT GEAR CLASH/GRIND FIELD FIX

CONDITION:
The transaxle clashes/grinds when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. This condition is more likely to occur when the transaxle is warm and when shifting above 4000 rpm.











CORRECTION:
HMC has developed two field fix kits to improve this condition. The kits contain a larger synchronizer hub, sleeve, rings and 3rd and 4th gears. The synchronizer capacity has also been increased. The two kits may be installed into vehicles built before or after March 1, 1993 as shown in the chart in this bulletin.

NOTE:
The field fix parts are the same as those adopted in production on the dates for the vehicles listed below:

Sonata - All 1995
Elantra - 6/8/93
Excel - 1/19/94

If a vehicle produced after the production change date has a 2nd to 3rd gear clash, do not install the whole kit. Order and install parts 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10 from the list shown above.
