A/T - Tester Sets Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Group: TRANSAXLE

Number: 97-40-023

Date: AUGUST, 1997

Model: ALL

Subject:
DIAGNOSTIC CODE CAUSED BY AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE TESTER

DESCRIPTION:

When the J39853 Automatic Transaxle Tester is installed and the selector switch is in the manual mode, the transaxle will be locked in 3rd gear "fail safe" mode after the testing has been completed. To return the vehicle to normal operation, switch the A/T tester to "NORMAL" and restart the engine.

Additionally, the following codes will be set in memory in the transaxle control module (TCM). Always clear the codes after you disconnect the A/T tester.

OBD II PRE-OBD II DESCRIPTION

P0752 41 or 83* Shift control solenoid valve A (SCSV-A) open

P0757 43 or 84* Shift control solenoid valve B (SCSV-B) open

P0743 47 Damper clutch control solenoid valve (DCCSV) fault

P0747 45 Pressure control solenoid valve (PCSV) open

OPERATION OF A/T TESTER:

The primary purpose of the A/T Tester is to allow the Technician to test all the clutches during a test drive and to perform a stall test in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. This stall test is not possible when the transaxle is controlled by the TCM because the TCM will only command 1st gear at full throttle and no vehicle speed.

CAUTION:
The A/T Tester controls the transaxle by functioning as the TCM. During normal operation, the TCM reduces the line pressure during shifts by adjusting the PCSV. This regulation of line pressure provides good shift quality. When you install the A/T Tester and shift manually, the tester always supplies full line pressure to the clutches, which results in harsh shifts.
