Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION





1. Disconnect the green striped hose from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve body and connect a vacuum pump via a three way terminal.
2. Verify the following conditions;
- With cold engine (20°C [68°F] or below) rev the engine. There should be no change in vacuum.
- With warm engine (70°C [158°F] or higher) rev the engine. Vacuum should rise temporarily to 7.8 in Hg or more.





3. Disconnect the three way terminal and connect the hand vacuum pump directly to the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.
4. Verify that the engine stalls or idles poorly when 15 in Hg vacuum is applied at idle.
