Windshield wiper operation is controlled by the Multifunction Switch, mounted on steering column. Wiper motors have permanent magnet fields, and high and low speeds are determined by current flow to the appropriate set of brushes. Delay operation on intermittent systems is controlled by a variable resistor in the switch and a relay. The relay is located in the ``Time/Alarm Control Unit'', located under the driver's seat.
Wiper arms on these systems return to a parked position when the system is switched Off with the ignition switch in the On position. This system will park on the glass at the lowest point of travel. Standard two speed systems complete the wipe cycle and stop in the park position, while intermittent systems complete a full wipe cycle before parking.
