Condition/Complaint: A noise similar to an exhaust drone may be heard transmitting from 5 speed
manual transmission Excels. The noise is most noticeable in 5th gear while cruising at about 50 - 60 mph. The noise can be stopped by moving the shift lever slightly to the right. This drone may also be heard, but to a lesser extent, in 1st and 2nd gear in 4 speed and 5 speed transmissions.

Cause: Excessive run-out of the 3rd/4th syncronizer sleeve causing a vibration in the 3rd/4th shift fork.

Correction: To reduce this noise, replace the 3rd/4th shift fork and the 3rd/4th syncronizer hub & sleeve.
