Throttle Plate - Carb.: Adjustments
The throttle opener (idle-up actuator) is used to compensate for electrical loads placed on the engine during idle periods. To compensate for air conditioning loads a separate throttle opener system is used, see below, paragraph headed FOR AIR CONDITIONING LOAD.FOR ELECTRICAL LOAD
Fig. 5 Location of idle speed And Idle-up adjusting screws.:
1. Check and if necessary, adjust curb idle speed to specification.
2. Use auxiliary lead wire to activate throttle opener control solenoid, then apply manifold vacuum to throttle opener.
3. Accelerate engine to approximately 2,000 RPM, then slowly close the throttle.
4. Adjust engine speed within specification using the throttle opener adjusting screw in the illustration.
THROTTLE OPENER RPM (IDLE-UP): 850 ± 100 RPM
5. Repeat step 3 and readjust adjusting screw as necessary.
6. Remove auxiliary lead wire, then reconnect throttle opener solenoid wiring.
FOR AIR CONDITIONING LOAD
Throttle Opener Adjustment Screw Location (For A/C):
1. With a tachometer installed and the engine idling, turn the air conditioner on.
2. After the idle stabilizes read the idle RPM.
3. If the RPM is out of specification, adjust the throttle opener (for A/C) using the adjustment screw in the illustration.
THROTTLE OPENER RPM (FOR A/C): 875 ± 25 RPM
