Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL










1. Remove the rear cable from the equalizer.






2. Remove the brake lever.
3. Remove the cable clamps inside the passenger's compartment.







4. Disconnect the cable clamps at trailing arm.










5. Remove the rear brake assembly and snap ring. Then remove the brake cable from the lever.
6. Remove the cable toward the passenger's compartment.

INSPECTION

1. Check the parking brake switch operation.
2. Check parking brake lever ratchet for wear.
3. Check parking brake cable for operation or damage.

INSTALLATION

1. When the cable clamps are tightened, make sure that the brake cables are laid smoothly along the floor and cable protectors on the suspension arm.
2. Install the grommets in the direction shown in figure.
3. Secure the cables with clamps, making sure that cables are not twisted.
4. Set the rear brake shoe outside diameter to the specification and install the brake drum.
5. Alternately pull and return the parking brake lever and depress and release the brake pedal to adjust the shoe clearance.
6. Adjust the stroke of the parking brake lever.
