Removal and Installation
1. Disconnect battery cables and remove battery.
2. On models equipped with 5 speed units, disconnect select control valve connector.
3. On all models, disconnect speedometer and clutch cables, then the back-up lamp switch electrical connector.
4. Disconnect starter motor electrical connections, then remove upper transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
5. Remove starter motor mounting bolts and the starter motor.
6. Raise and support vehicle.
7. Remove under cover, then drain transaxle.
8. Working from engine compartment, disconnect extension and shift rods from transaxle.
9. Disconnect stabilizer bar from control arm, then remove control arm at body mount.
10. Remove driveshafts from transaxle and support with suitable wire.
11. Support transaxle with suitable jack, then remove bellhousing cover.
12. Remove remaining transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
13. Remove transaxle mount insulator bolt.
14. Remove cover from right front fender shield, then remove transaxle bracket and mount assembly.
15. Slide transaxle assembly to the right, then lower and remove from underside of vehicle.

16. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque bracket and mount assembly bolts to 22-30 ft. lbs., 814 mm bellhousing cover attaching bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs., 820 mm bellhousing cover bolts to 11-16 ft. lbs., extension rod to transaxle bolt to 43-51 ft. lbs., shift rod to transaxle bolt to 24 ft. lbs., and all transaxle to engine mounting bolts as shown in Fig. 3.
b. Refill transaxle with suitable oil, then torque drain plug to 22-25 ft. lbs.
c. Adjust clutch pedal as outlined previously.
