Idle Speed: Adjustments


IDLE SPEED CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES

1. Confirm initial inspection conditions:
a. Engine coolant temperature is 176 - 203°F.
b. Lights, cooling fan and all accessories are OFF.
c. Transmission is in neutral or park.
d. Steering wheel is in straight-ahead position, (on vehicles with power steering).
2. Check the ignition timing and adjust, if necessary. (Refer to IGNITION TIMING)
3. Connect a tachometer to the negative (-) terminal of the ignition coil.
4. Maintain engine speed at 2,000 - 3,000 rpm for 5 - 10 seconds.
5. Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes.
6. Check the curb idle speed.

Curb Idle Speed: 800 ± 100 rpm

7. If not as specified, adjust using speed adjusting screw (SAS) 1. Fig. 83
8. Stop the engine and remove the tachometer.
