Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation

The charcoal canister stores and absorbs fuel vapors from the fuel tank and carburetor float chamber when the engine is Off. When the engine is started, the vapors stored in the canister are drawn into the intake manifold through the purge control valve, while vapors in the float chamber flow to the carburetor through the bowl vent valve.
