Canister Purge Control Valve: Description and Operation

The purge control valve remains closed during idling to prevent vaporized fuel from entering the intake manifold, resulting in positive control of carbon monoxide emissions at high idle speeds. This is a particular problem during high ambient temperatures. When ported vacuum from the carburetor working on the diaphragm exceeds a preset value, the purge control valve opens.
