Removal and Replacement




Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LH8) (5.3L)

Removal Procedure

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging)
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory (Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory)
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair)
4. Remove the right front wheelhouse panel. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (Service and Repair)
5. Remove the A/C drive belt. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Replacement (V8) (Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Replacement)




6. Remove the electronic locking differential electrical connector (1) and electrical harness bracket (2) from the right frame rail and reposition.
7. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
8. Remove compressor hoses. Refer to Discharge Hose Replacement (LLR) (Discharge Hose Replacement)Discharge Hose Replacement (LH8) (Discharge Hose Replacement) and Suction Hose Replacement (LLR) (Suction Hose Replacement)Suction Hose Replacement (LH8) (Suction Hose Replacement)
9. Remove all right side body mount frame cushion bolts. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Insulator Replacement (Service and Repair)




10. Slowly lift the right (passenger) side of the body 1-1/4 inches off the frame and support.




11. Remove compressor mount bolts.




12. Rotate compressor and remove by backing assembly out between the frame rail and body.

Installation Procedure

1. Rotate compressor and install by positing assembly in between the frame rail and body.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the compressor mount bolts50 Nm (37 lb ft).
3. Slowly lower the right (passenger) side of the body on to the frame.

Note: Body mounts/bolts must be reinstalled in their original position.

4. Install all right side body mount frame cushion bolts. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Insulator Replacement (Service and Repair)
5. Install the compressor hoses. Refer to Discharge Hose Replacement (LLR) (Discharge Hose Replacement)Discharge Hose Replacement (LH8) (Discharge Hose Replacement) and Suction Hose Replacement (LLR) (Suction Hose Replacement)Suction Hose Replacement (LH8) (Suction Hose Replacement)
6. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.




7. Install the electronic locking differential electrical connector (1) and electrical harness bracket (2) from the right frame rail and reposition.
8. Install the A/C drive belt. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Replacement (V8) (Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Replacement)
9. Install the right front wheelhouse panel. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (Service and Repair)
10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair)
11. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory (Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory)
12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging)
