Engine Control Module Programming and Setup

Engine Control Module Programming and Setup (LLR) (3.7L)

The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event be performed for a complete repair.

ECM Replacement

Warning

Replacement or reprogramming of the ECM, or replacement of the clutch pedal position sensor (CPPS) or clutch pedal requires that a CPPS learn procedure be performed. Failure to perform the CPPS learn procedure may result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle or its components if the vehicle is in gear and the starter motor is accidentally engaged.

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:

1. ECM Reprogramming-Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (Programming and Relearning).
2. Clutch pedal position sensor learn-Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn (Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn).
3. Crankshaft Position (CKP) Variation Learn-Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn (Procedures) for 3.7L engine.
4. The Throttle/Idle Learn procedure-Refer to Throttle/Idle Learn (Procedures).

ECM Reprogramming

If the ECM needs to be reprogrammed, refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (Programming and Relearning).

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn (Procedures) for 3.7L engine.

* Engine replacement
* Any engine repair that disturbs the CKP sensor or it's relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
* CKP sensor

• If the throttle body is replaced or a throttle body cleaning procedure is completed, the Throttle/Idle Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to Throttle/Idle Learn (Procedures).
