Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement




Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement (Left Hand Drive)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the instrument panel (I/P). Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Left Hand Drive) (Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement)Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Right Hand Drive) (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).




3. Remove the 2 bolts (1) retaining the I/P carrier to the brake pedal/steering column support bracket.




4. Remove the right 2 carrier retaining bolts (1).




5. Remove the 2 lower center carrier retaining bolts.




6. Remove the left 2 I/P carrier retaining bolts (1).




7. Located near the radio, remove the I/P harness retainer (1) from the I/P carrier.




8. Located near the HVAC blower motor, remove the I/P harness retainer (1) from the I/P carrier.




9. Located near the OnStar(R) module, remove the I/P harness retainer (1) from the I/P carrier.




10. Remove the left courtesy lamp (1) from the I/P carrier.
11. Partially remove the I/P carrier from the bulkhead.




12. Remove the right courtesy lamp (1) from the I/P carrier.




13. Located near the steering column electrical connector, remove the I/P harness retainer (1) from the I/P carrier.
14. If equipped with OnStar(R), disconnect the connectors from the module.
15. If replacing the I/P carrier, remove the OnStar(R) module. Refer to Communication Interface Module Replacement (Service and Repair).




16. Remove the steering column (1) and SIR connector (2) from the I/P carrier.




17. Position the I/P wire harness in order to remove the I/P carrier.
18. Position the HVAC control assembly cables in order to remove the I/P carrier.




19. Remove the I/P carrier from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Position the I/P carrier to the bulkhead.
2. Position the HVAC control assembly cables through the I/P carrier.




3. Position the I/P wire harness on the I/P carrier.




4. Install the steering column (1) and SIR connector (2) to the I/P carrier.




5. If equipped with OnStar(R), connect the connectors to the module.
6. If replacing the I/P carrier, install the OnStar(R) module. Refer to Communication Interface Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Located near the steering column electrical connector, install the I/P harness retainer (1) to the I/P carrier.




8. Install the right courtesy lamp (1) to the I/P carrier.
9. Install the I/P carrier to the bulkhead.




10. Install the left courtesy lamp (1) to the I/P carrier.




11. Located near the OnStar(R) module, install the I/P harness retainer (1) to the I/P carrier.




12. Located near the HVAC blower motor, install the I/P harness retainer (1) to the I/P carrier.




13. Located near the radio, install the I/P harness retainer (1) to the I/P carrier.




14. Partially install the 2 lower center carrier retaining bolts.




15. Partially install the left 2 I/P carrier retaining bolts (1).




16. Partially install the right 2 carrier retaining bolts (1).




17. Partially install the 2 bolts (1) retaining the I/P carrier to the brake pedal/steering column support bracket.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

18. Install the 2 center carrier retaining bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

19. Install the remaining carrier retaining bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

20. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
21. Install the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Left Hand Drive) (Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement)Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Right Hand Drive) (Service and Repair).
