Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair




Crankshaft Balancer Replacement

Special Tools
* EN 46547 Flywheel Holding Tool
* EN-48034 Harmonic Balancer Installer
* J 41816-A Crankshaft Balancer Remover
* J 41816-2 Crankshaft End Protector
* J 45059 Angle Meter

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (With A/C) (Drive Belt Replacement (With A/C))Drive Belt Replacement (Without A/C) (Drive Belt Replacement (Without A/C)).
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).




3. Remove the service slot plug.





Note: The crankshaft balancer does not have a key-way; so the crankshaft could turn when tightening, causing an improper torque.

4. Install the EN 46547 (1) into the flywheel teeth.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Remove the fan. Refer to Fan Replacement (LLR) (Fan Replacement)Fan Replacement (LH8) (Fan Replacement).
7. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement (LH8) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement (LLR) (Service and Repair).
8. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill) (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement (Gasoline) (Radiator Replacement (Gasoline)).




10. Remove and discard the crankshaft balancer bolt.




11. Install the J 41816-2 and J 41816-A to the crankshaft balancer.

Note: Do not pull on outer edge of the crankshaft balancer.

12. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
13. Remove the J 41816-2 and J 41816-A .
14. Remove the crankshaft balancer friction washer.
This will be located at the end of the crankshaft balancer or on the crankshaft.
15. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the crankshaft balancer using the EN-48034 .
2. Remove the EN-48034 .





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the crankshaft balancer washer and a NEW bolt.

Tighten the bolt a first pass to 150 Nm (111 lb ft). Using the J 45059 rotate the bolt a final pass an additional 180 degrees.

4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).




5. Remove the EN 46547 (1) from the flywheel teeth.




6. Install the service slot plug.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement (Gasoline) (Radiator Replacement (Gasoline)).
9. Install the fan. Refer to Fan Replacement (LLR) (Fan Replacement)Fan Replacement (LH8) (Fan Replacement).
10. Install the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement (LH8) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement (LLR) (Service and Repair).
11. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (With A/C) (Drive Belt Replacement (With A/C))Drive Belt Replacement (Without A/C) (Drive Belt Replacement (Without A/C)).
12. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill) (Service and Repair).
