This bulletin is being revised to update information on Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire in the table below and add model years. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-08-44-005B (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).
This bulletin is being published in conjunction with a GMSPO Parts bulletin GMP04-018 (US only) in order to clarify that the removal of several components solely to obtain part numbers may not always be necessary. Parts numbers for numerous radios, CD changers and I/P clusters are retrievable using a Tech 2(R). This eliminates the need to remove the component solely to determine the part number. The part number can typically be found underthe "Data Display", "ID Information" or Module Information" Menu selection and is titles "8" Digit GM Part Number," "End Model Part Number" or a similar data parameter. Note that if the component was removed during the diagnostic process, then the part number found on the part label can be used to order the replacement part.
On vehicles where the Tech 2(R) is used to retrieve the part number of a component, additional labor should NOT be submitted for removal and installation to gain access to the part label.
When navigating through the Tech 2(R) menus, upon reaching the module selection list, choose either "Radio" or "Navigation Radio" as appropriate. Do not select "Digital Radio Receiver" as it is actually the XM receiver and not the radio.
Labor Operation Revisions
Current strategy allows using up to 3 separate labor operations when performing one radio replacement procedure. Previously, additional removal/replace operations were required due to the following conditions:
Loaner radios (no longer feasible due to SPS programming)
Requirement to read part number on back of radio prior to ordering replacement part (Tech 2(R) is now capable of displaying component part numbers)
Additional labor operations will be removed from the Labor Time Guide beginning with the 2005 model year publications. These changes will appear in future Labor Time Guide releases.
One labor operation will be used for radio removal/replacement.
Consistent with labor operation strategy on other components.
Improved tracking for engineering problem resolution groups.
Less confusion for retail warranty administrators.
The table shown does NOT apply to Saab US, models.

The Tech 2(R) should be used to retrieve the part number of the radio CD changer and I/P cluster from the vehicles listed in the table above.
