Removal and Replacement



Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LLR)

Special Tools

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector


Removal Procedure

1. Recover the air conditioner (A/C) refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Non HP2) (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Non HP2)) .
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Without A/C) (Drive Belt Replacement (Without A/C))Drive Belt Replacement (With A/C) (Drive Belt Replacement (With A/C)) .
3. Remove the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Fan Replacement (LLR) (Service and Repair)Fan Replacement (LH8) (Service and Repair) .
4. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
5. Remove the left front tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
6. Remove the left front wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement (Front) (Service and Repair)Wheelhouse Panel Replacement (Rear) (Service and Repair) .

Important: Some system pressure may still exist in the A/C compressor crankcase after you evacuate the system.






7. Remove the A/C discharge hose bolt (2) from the A/C compressor.
8. Remove the A/C suction hose bolt (3) from the compressor.
9. Remove the A/C compressor hoses (1, 4) from the A/C compressor.
10. Remove and discard the sealing washers.




11. Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts from the A/C compressor.
12. Remove the A/C compressor from the vehicle.
13. Drain and measure the A/C compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing (Procedures) .



Installation Procedure

1. Adjust the proper amount of oil to the replacement compressor. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities ([1][2]Capacity Specifications) .




2. Install A/C the compressor to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

3. Install the A/C compressor mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).





4. Install new sealing washers to the A/C hoses.
5. Install the A/C compressor hoses to the A/C compressor.
6. Install the A/C suction hose bolt (3).
7. Install the A/C discharge hose bolt.

Tighten the bolts to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

8. Connect the compressor electrical connectors.
9. Install the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Fan Replacement (LLR) (Service and Repair)Fan Replacement (LH8) (Service and Repair) .
10. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Without A/C) (Drive Belt Replacement (Without A/C))Drive Belt Replacement (With A/C) (Drive Belt Replacement (With A/C)) .
11. Install the left front wheelhouse liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement (Front) (Service and Repair)Wheelhouse Panel Replacement (Rear) (Service and Repair) .
12. Install the left front tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
13. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Non HP2) (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Non HP2)) .
14. Using J 39400-A leak test the fittings .
