Transfer Case Fluid Replacement

Fluid Replacement Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle. refer to vehicle lifting.




2. Determine if a blue dot is affixed to the bottom of the transfer case.
^ If the blue dot is present, do steps 3 through 6 and 11 only.
^ If there is no blue dot, or the vehicle has a vehicle identification number (VIN) of 56TDN136068105387 or prior, proceed to step 3.




3. Remove the transfer case fill plug (2).
4. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the fill hole with DEXRON(R) III fluid, G/M P/N 12378470 (Canadian P/N 10952622).
5. Apply pipe sealant G/M P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) to the threads of the transfer case plug.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

6. Install the transfer case fill plug.

Tighten the transfer case fill plug to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

7. Remove the speed sensor from the transfer case.





Important: A hand pump, or equivalent, will be required to perform step 9.

8. Add 250 ml (8.45 oz) of DEXRON(R) III fluid, GM P/N 12378470 (Canadian P/N 10952622), to the transfer case via the speed sensor hole.





Notice: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice.

9. Install the speed sensor to the top of the transfer case and connect the electrical connector.

Tighten the speed sensor to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

10. Lower the vehicle.
