Subject: Service 4WD Light On, C0327 DTC Set (Replace Transfer Case Actuator and Install New D-Ring Seal)

2006-2009 HUMMER H3 Models
All Equipped with RPO NR4 or NR6 Transfer Case
Condition
Some customers may comment that the Service 4WD light is on. Upon further investigation, a technician may find C0327 (Encoder Circuit Malfunction) DTC stored.
Cause
The transfer case control module sets a C0327 DTC when it detects an invalid reading from the actuator sensor on an invalid sequence during a transfer case shift. This invalid reading may have been caused by contamination entering the actuator.
Correction
Important:
Install a new seal, P/N 19209788, with all future actuator replacements. Replace the transfer case actuator with existing P/N 19167720. Also install newly released actuator seal, P/N 19209788. This will prevent contamination from entering the actuator assembly.
