Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement

Removal Procedure




Caution: refer to restraint system service precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
2. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column.
3. Remove the steering column trim covers.
4. Remove the wire harness straps from the wire harness assembly.
5. Disconnect the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly connector from the base of the column.
6. Disconnect the wires from the ignition switch and the ignition lock solenoid.




7. Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws from the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
8. Slide the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly off of the steering column. Discard the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly if replacing.

Installation Procedure

Important: A new multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly will come precentered with a centering tab attached. Do NOT remove the centering tab until installation is complete. Failure to follow procedure will cause a misalignment to the SIR coil and centering will be required.

If reusing the existing multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly, you must center the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering.




1. Slide the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly onto the steering column.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

2. Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws into the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.

Tighten the screws (1) to 4.5 N.m (40 lb in).

3. Route the wire harness assembly down the steering column.




4. Connect the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly connector at the base of the column, the ignition switch, and the ignition lock solenoid.
5. Install the wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly.
6. Remove the centering tab from the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
7. Install the steering column trim covers.
8. Install the steering wheel to the steering column.
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
