Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair



Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Fuel and Evaporative Emission Pipe Caution.

Caution: Refer to Gasoline/Gasoline Vapors Caution.

Notice: Refer to Fuel and Evaporative Emission Hose/Pipe Connection Cleaning Notice.




1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister vent solenoid valve electrical connector (1).




3. Disconnect the EVAP line quick connect (1) from the EVAP canister.
4. Disconnect the EVAP chassis line from the EVAP canister.




5. Remove the bolt securing the EVAP canister to the crossmember.




6. Disengage the EVAP canister from the crossmember bracket tabs.
7. Remove the EVAP canister.
8. If replacing the EVAP canister, remove the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve. Perform the following:

1. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve quick connect from the EVAP canister.
2. Disengage the bracket retaining tab and remove the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve.

Installation Procedure

1. If the EVAP canister was replaced, install the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve. Perform the following:

1. Engage the bracket retaining tab and install the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve.
2. Connect the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve quick connect to the EVAP canister.




2. Install the EVAP canister.
3. Engage the EVAP canister to the crossmember bracket tabs.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

4. Install the bolt securing the EVAP canister to the crossmember.

Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




5. Connect the EVAP chassis line to the EVAP canister.
6. Connect the EVAP line quick connect (1) to the EVAP canister.




7. Connect the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve electrical connector (1).
8. Lower the vehicle.
