Rear License Plate Bends (Install Updated License Plate Bracket)

Built Prior to VIN Breakpoints 78122457 (Bumpers with Hitch) and 78121707 (Bumpers without Hitch)
Condition
Some customers may comment that the rear license plate bends. This is usually noticed after going through an automatic car wash.
Correction
Install an updated license plate bracket using the following procedure:
Remove the two upper license plate screws and remove the rear license plate.
Install the license plate onto the license plate bracket with two new license plate screws.
Install the license plate and bracket assembly onto the rear bumper with the two upper license plate screws.
Outline the rear license plate bracket to the rear bumper with an erasable marker or pencil.
Remove the license plate and bracket assembly by loosing the two upper screws.
Remove the license plate screws from the bracket and remove the license plate.
Position the license plate bracket onto the rear bumper using the marks as a template.
Mark the location of the two new license plate bracket attaching holes (1) referring to above graphic.
Remove the license plate bracket.
Center punch the center of the hole marks.
Drill the two new holes with a 6.5 mm (1/4 in) drill bit.
Apply GM Synthetic Lubrication with Teflon, P/N 12371287 (in Canada, 10953437) to the new drilled holes.
Tip
It is recommended to use an acid brush to apply this grease to the bare edges.
Install the license plate bracket and the two plastic push pin retainers.
Install the rear license plate and four screws.
Tighten the license plate screws.
