Body/Frame - Underbody Creak/Pop Noises

This bulletin is being revised to adjust the labor time. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-08-61-006B (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a noise coming from the underbody of the vehicle.

Cause

This condition may be due to body coning in the area of the upper body mounts.

Correction

Use the following procedure to install insulators to the upper body mounts. Do not attempt to repair any coning of the sheet metal on the underside of the body at the mount locations that may be observed when a body mount is serviced.

Installation of Insulators to the Upper Body Mount:

1. Raise the vehicle.

2. Loosen the lower body mounts on the right hand side of the vehicle. Jack Stand Location:





3. Install jack stands on the right hand side of the vehicle to support the body (refer to graphic # 1).

4. Slightly lower the vehicle just enough to provide access to the upper body mount.








5. Remove the upper body mounts one at a time and install the insulators as shown in graphics #2 and # 3. Upper Body Mount - Insulator (P/N 15899719) Location show above. Upper Body Mount - Insulator (P/N 15053229) Location shown above.

Important:
Place a small amount of Instant Adhesive Gel, P/N 12345632 (in Canada, P/N 10953475) or equivalent to the top of the upper mount in order to hold the upper insulator in position during installation.

6. Raise the vehicle to seat the body on the frame and tighten the right side mounts.

7. Install the jack stands on the left side of vehicle to support the body.

8. Loosen the lower body mounts on the left side.

9. Slightly lower the vehicle just enough to provide access to the left side upper body mounts.

10. Remove the upper body mounts one at a time and install the insulators.

11. Raise the vehicle to seat the body on the frame.

12. Tighten all body mounts.

Tighten

Tighten to 85 N.m (63 lb ft).

13. Remove the jack stands.

14. Lower the vehicle.
