Subject: Information on Usage of 2008-2009 Hoods for 2003-2007 Vehicle Repairs Due to Temporary Part Unavailability - Modification Required

Models:
2003-2009 HUMMER H2

When doing collision repairs on a 2003-2007 model year vehicle, dealers may report on being unable to obtain a new service part hood assembly. This has been caused by a temporary shortage of past model hood service parts.

Note:
The current model (2008-2009) hood assemblies have a redesigned latch striker location, which also drove design changes to the latch assembly and latch support bracket. This design change makes the current hood not interchangeable to past models (2003-2007) without a modification of the hood latch and latch support bracket. The graphics below show an underside view of the various years of hoods. Note that the hood strikers are positioned left of the hood centerline, which is designated by the red line below.

The temporary solution for this issue is for the repair shop to install a 2008-2009 model year hood and change over the interfacing hood latch and latch support bracket in order for the hood to properly install to the vehicle. Replace the original hood latch/bracket with the parts listed in the part table below, following Hood Primary and Secondary Latch Replacement in SI. The following information is provided as a guideline to help understand the necessary modification:

- The 2007 and older (1) and 2008-2009 (2) latch support brackets are shown above. Note that the latch fastener clinch nuts of the replacement bracket are on the opposite side, so the newer model latch will install to the driver side of the bracket, rather than the passenger side.

- The 2007 and older (1) and 2008-2009 (2) latches are shown above. As noted previously, because of the mounting scheme change, the newer latch will mount on the opposite side of the new latch bracket.

Tip
The current model hood latch includes a hood ajar switch. When redundant, the switch can be detached before installation by removing the rivet (1), noted above.

Note:
When installing the new latch, the original hood release cable can be reused. The original cable is slightly longer than the 2008-2009 cable, so inspect the cable routing to ensure there are no sharp bends/kinks that could increase release efforts.

- The graphics above show the 2007 and older bracket/latch installed (1) and the 2008-2009 bracket/latch installed (2), along with the proper release cable routing. Note that for the 2008-2009 bracket/latch, if the switch is not removed from the latch, the harness connector can be clipped to the latch bracket.
