INFORMATION

Subject:
Design Change Information - Transmission To Transfer Case Adapter Seal 0-ring and/or Gasket Replacement For Fluid Leak Diagnosis and/or Repair

Models:
2006 HUMMER H3

Important:
^ The adapter plate between the transfer case and the transmission on this vehicle is a "dry" joint.

^ Both the transmission and transfer case are sealed with lip seals.

^ Currently, this seal design is unique to HUMMER H3 vehicles.

The above automatic transmission (3) and transfer case (6) utilize a gasket (5) between the adapter plate (2) and the transfer case (6). This gasket is NOT designed to seal the transmission and transfer case internal fluid.

The transmission output shaft seal (4) is located in the adapter plate (2) and is designed to seal transmission internal fluid from the adapter plate.

The transfer case input shaft seal (1) is located in the front case half of the transfer case and is designed to seal internal transfer case fluid from the adapter plate.

In the event that either seal may leak, transmission fluid or transfer case fluid may drip from a slot provided on the mounting face of the transfer case.

If internal fluid does leak from the adapter plate drain hole, the gasket (5) is NOT the source of the fluid leak and further diagnosis is required to determine the cause of the leak.
