Tail Lamp Housing Separates from Tail Lamp Retainers (Replace Tail Lamp Housing Retainers)

Condition
Some customers may comment that the tail lamp housing separates from the tail lamp retainer.
Cause
The tail lamp housing retainer does not have sufficient retention.
Correction
Replace the tail lamp housing retainer with a new tail lamp housing retainer, P/N 11562421.
Tail Lamp Housing Retainer Replacement
Important:
Perform this service procedure on the left and right tail lamp housing. There is one tail lamp housing retainer per tail lamp housing.
1. Remove the tail lamp housing from the vehicle.
1.1. Remove the two screws from the tail lamp housing.
1.2. Pull the tail lamp housing outward in order to release the exterior side tail lamp housing retainer.
1.3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb sockets.
2. Remove the tail lamp housing retainer from the vehicle.
2.1. Insert a screwdriver into the center of the tail lamp housing retainer.
2.2. Use the screwdriver to break the external retention features of the retainer by moving the screwdriver to the extreme outboard edge of the retainer and sheet metal of the vehicle.
2.3. Rotate the retainer 360 degrees multiple times until a cracking noise is produced.
2.4. Pull rearward on the retainer with needle nose pliers in order to work the retainer from the sheet metal.
3. Replace the retainer with a new retainer, P/N 11562421.
4. Install the tail lamp housing to the vehicle.
4.1. Connect the tail lamp housing electrical connector to the bulb sockets.
4.2. Insert the tail lamp housing into the sheet metal.
4.3. Install the two tail lamp housing screws.
