Compressor Replacement



COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the A/C refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the generator.
3. Remove the idler pulley.
4. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.




5. Remove the A/C discharge hose bolt 2 from the A/C compressor.

IMPORTANT: Some system pressure may still exist in the A/C compressor crankcase after you evacuate the system.

6. Remove the A/C suction hose bolt 3 from the compressor.
7. Remove the A/C compressor hoses (1,4) from the A/C compressor.
8. Remove and discard the sealing washers.




9. Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts from the A/C compressor.
10. Remove the A/C compressor from the vehicle.
11. Drain and measure the A/C compressor oil. Refer to Compressor Oil Balancing.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Adjust the proper amount of oil to the replacement compressor. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities.




2. Install A/C the compressor to the vehicle.
3. Install the A/C compressor mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice.




4. Install new sealing washers to the A/C hoses.
5. Install the A/C compressor hoses to the A/C compressor.
6. Install the A/C suction hose bolt (3).
7. Install the A/C discharge hose bolt.

Tighten the bolts to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

8. Connect the compressor electrical connectors.
9. Install the idler pulley.
10. Install the generator.
11. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
12. Using J 39400-A leak test the fittings.
