Instrument Panel (I/P) Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 andSIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) storage compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P)) .
3. Remove the left and right windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) in Interior Trim.
4. Remove the left and right front door sill plates. Refer to Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front (Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front) in Interior Trim.
5. Remove the left and right lower cowl panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Cowl Side (Trim Panel Replacement - Cowl Side) in Interior Trim.
6. Remove the instrument panel center trim plate. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Center (Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Center) .
7. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
8. Remove the left air outlet. Refer toAir Outlet Replacement - Instrument Panel - Left in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
9. Remove the right air outlet. Refer toAir Outlet Replacement - Instrument Panel - Right in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
10. Remove the left knee bolster trim panel. Refer toKnee Bolster Replacement - Left (Knee Bolster Replacement - Left) .
11. Remove the knee bolster bracket. Refer toKnee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Left (Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Left) .
12. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC) trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster) .
13. Remove the instrument panel cluster.
14. Remove the headlamp switch and retain for transfer. Refer toHeadlamp Switch Replacement .
15. Remove the ambient light sensor. Refer toAmbient Light Sensor Replacement in Lighting Systems.




16. Remove the 3 upper I/P bolt covers.




17. Remove the 3 upper I/P nuts retaining the I/P to the bulkhead.
18. Remove the 3 upper HVAC duct screws retaining the duct to the I/P.




19. Remove the screw located behind the IPC.




20. Remove the 2 screws retaining the I/P compartment door latch.
21. Remove the 3 lower I/P retaining screws located near the I/P storage compartment.




22. Remove the hazard switch harness from the routing hole.
23. Remove the digital radio receiver. Refer to Receiver Replacement - Digital Radio in Entertainment.
24. Remove the instrument panel inflatable restraint module (IPM). Refer toInflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.




25. Remove the 2 screws located in the IPM opening.




26. Remove the screw from the I/P end cap.




27. Reach through the I/P storage compartment opening and remove the screw retaining the I/P carrier to the I/P structure.




28. If equipped, disconnect the accessory power outlet electrical connectors.
29. Grasp the lower center edge of the I/P and pull rearward in order to release the 2 retaining clips.




30. Grasp the lower right edge of the I/P and pull rearward in order to release the retaining clip.
31. Pull the I/P partially away from the I/P structure.




32. Reach through the IPM opening and remove the I/P wiring harness clips (1) from the I/P.




33. Reach through the center stack opening and remove the I/P wiring harness clips (1) from the HVAC vent.




34. Reach through the IPC opening and remove the I/P wiring harness clips (1) from the I/P.




35. Reach through the left side of the IPC opening and remove the I/P wiring harness clips (1) from the I/P.
36. With the aid of an assistant, carefully remove the I/P from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure





1. With the aid of an assistant, partially install the I/P cover to the I/P structure.
2. Reach through the left side of the IPC opening and install the I/P wiring harness clips (1) to the I/P.




3. Reach through the IPC opening and install the I/P wiring harness clips (1) to the I/P.




4. Reach through the center stack opening and install the I/P wiring harness clips (1) to the HVAC vent.




5. Reach through the IPM opening and install the I/P wiring harness clips (1) to the I/P.
6. Ensure all the wire harness and electrical connectors are not pinched between the I/P and I/P structure.
7. Connect the electrical connectors to the power outlets.




8. Push on the lower center edge of the I/P and seat the 2 retaining clips.




9. Push on the lower right edge of the I/P and seat the retaining clip.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.





10. Install the 3 upper HVAC duct screws retaining the duct to the I/P.

Tighten the screws to 3 Nm (27 lb in).

11. Install the 3 upper nuts retaining the I/P to the bulkhead.

Tighten the nuts to 9 Nm (80 lb in).





12. Reach through the I/P storage compartment opening and install the screw retaining the I/P carrier to the I/P structure.

Tighten the screw to 3 Nm (27 lb in).





13. Install the 2 screws located in the IPM opening.

Tighten the screws to 3 Nm (27 lb in).





14. Install the end cap screw.

Tighten the screws to 2.5 Nm (22 lb in).





15. Position the hazard warning switch harness through the routing hole.




16. Install the 2 screws retaining the I/P compartment door latch.

Tighten the screws to 3 Nm (27 lb in).

17. Install the 3 lower I/P retaining screws located near the I/P storage compartment.

Tighten the screws to 9 Nm (80 lb in).





18. Install the screw located behind the IPC.

Tighten the screw to 9 Nm (80 lb in).





19. Install the 3 upper I/P bolt covers.
20. Install the ambient light sensor. Refer toAmbient Light Sensor Replacement in Lighting Systems.
21. Install the headlamp switch. Refer toHeadlamp Switch Replacement .
22. Install the left air outlet. Refer toAir Outlet Replacement - Instrument Panel - Left in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
23. Install the IPC.
24. Install the IPC trim plate.
25. Install the knee bolster bracket. Refer toKnee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Left (Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Left) .
26. Install the knee bolster trim panel. Refer toKnee Bolster Replacement - Left (Knee Bolster Replacement - Left) .
27. Install the IPM. Refer toInflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
28. Install the digital radio receiver. Refer to Receiver Replacement - Digital Radio in Entertainment.
29. Install the right air outlet. Refer toAir Outlet Replacement - Instrument Panel - Right in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
30. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
31. Install the instrument panel center trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Center (Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Center) .
32. Install the I/P storage compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P)) .
33. Install the left and right windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) in Interior Trim.
34. Install the left and right lower cowl panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Cowl Side (Trim Panel Replacement - Cowl Side) in Interior Trim.
35. Install the left and right front door sill plates. Refer to Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front (Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front) in Interior Trim.
36. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 andSIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
