Fit EV Battery Exchange Program
(Supersedes 12-061, dated September 14, 2012, to revise the information marked by asterisks.
REVISION SUMMARY

This bulletin applies to Fit EV lithium ion high-voltage batteries.
COMPONENT REPLACEMENT POLICY
Any internal failure requiring Fit EV battery module disassembly qualifies for this program. Follow the warranty information and procedures in this service bulletin and in Parts Information Bulletin Al 2-0009, Lithium Battery Exchange Program.
NOTE:
Fit EV replacement batteries may reuse some components, including the battery cells.

DIAGNOSIS
Service Advisor:
Interview the customer to get as much information as possible, such as where and when the symptom occurs. This information is vital to the diagnosis. Write the complaint on the repair order.
Service Technician:
1. Confirm the problem using the customer information written on the repair order; or, have the customer demonstrate the problem, then write down the results on the repair order.
Using the SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING
INDEX or the DTC INDEX in the service manual, follow the diagnostic procedure:
^ Refer to the appropriate section in the service manual, or
^ From the Interactive Network (iN) main menu:
- Select SERVICE.
- Select ISIS (Service Publications).
- Select SEARCH BY VEHICLE.
- Enter the model and the model year.
- Enter keyword BATTERY.
- Select the appropriate Service Bulletin, ServiceNews article, or DTC Troubleshooting from the list.
2. Repair the vehicle according to your diagnosis:
^ If the problem is gone, return the vehicle to the customer.
^ If the problem is still there or your diagnosis leads you to replace the Fit EV battery, go to
FIT EV BATTERY ORDERING AND REPLACEMENT.
FIT EV BATTERY ORDERING AND REPLACEMENT
Service Technician:
NOTE:
^ Use the iN to order a replacement Fit EV battery. Do not call the Remanufactured Parts Dealer Service Group.
^ A Tech Line reference number is not required to submit the order.
1. Go to an iN workstation.
2. From the iN main menu, select SERVICE, select Remanufactured Parts, then select IMA Battery Order.
3. Enter the VIN for the vehicle you are working on, then select Search.
4. Review all displayed publications for additional repair information. If you cannot repair the problem with the information provided, select IMA Battery Order.
5. Enter the mileage and the customer's state, and select Submit to view the IMA Battery Order form.
6. Fill in the IMA Battery Order form. Questions with a red asterisk (*) are required fields that you must answer to submit the form. Make sure the information is complete.
After you submit your order, the screen below appears, indicating that the system accepted the order.
NOTE:
* ^ In addition to the charge for the replacement battery, a loan fee of $800 will be applied to your ofder for the use of the accompanying required special equipment kit.*
^ Once you submit your order, you can track it using the Order Status Inquiry screen on the iN. For details, go to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS in this service bulletin.
7. You will receive a replacement battery unit packed in a special shipping crate, plus a crate containing special equipment required for the battery replacement.
Both crates are large and heavy, and will arrive on a dedicated truck. A forklift is required to move the crates; if one is needed, AHM will arrange to send one when the shipment is processed.
NOTE:
It is important to have the vehicle ready for servicing at the time the truck arrives. Make sure to have plenty of flat space next to the vehicle for the battery and equipment crates. Neither crate should be placed where it will be exposed to moisture.
8. Unpack the special equipment crate, then the battery crate. Before you begin, make sure to thoroughly read Service Bulletin 12-062, Fit EV Battery Replacement Equipment, which instructs you how to unpack and repack the crates in order to prevent damage or loss.
9. Replace the failed battery:
^ Online, enter keywords BATTERY REMOVAL, then select Battery Removal and Installation from the list.
10. Put the failed battery core and the special equipment in their respective crates. Make sure to follow the instructions in SIB 12-062.
NOTE:
^ If the battery core or crate is disassembled or physically damaged while at your dealership or due to improper packaging, your dealership will be debited a core loss charge of $12,000.
^ If the special equipment kit or crate is physically damaged while at your dealership or due to improper packaging, your dealership will be debited a core loss charge of $16,000.
Parts Manager:
11. Remove the bill of lading from inside the special equipment crate, and fill it out:
^ Fill in your information on the top portion.
^ Sign on the Shippers Signature line.
^ Make two copies.
^ Give the original and one copy to the truck driver when the crates are picked up.
^ File the other copy in your dealership's hazardous materials file.
12. Print out the battery order form:
^ From the iN main menu, select PARTS.
^ Select Transactions.
^ Select Search.
^ Enter the desired date range, then enter IMA Battery Order, then select Search.
^ Scroll down to the appropriate VIN, then select it to view the form.
^ Review the form, then print out a copy by selecting the printer icon.
13. You will need to print out two separate Core Return Update Acknowledgement documents. First, print out the one for the battery:
^ From the iN main menu, select PARTS.
^ Select Returns and Surplus.
^ Select Core Returns.
^ Select Cores with VIN, then Submit, to view the Core Returns Acknowledgement screen.
^ You will see two order reference numbers associated with the VIN of the vehicle you're working on. Select the one for the battery.
^ Enter the serial number from the core, then select Submit.
^ Review the form, then print out a copy by selecting the printer icon.
14. Print out the Core Return Update Acknowledgement document for the special equipment kit:
^ From the Core Returns Acknowledgement screen, select the order reference number for the equipment kit.
^ Enter the crate serial number (located on a label affixed to the outside of the equipment crate), then select Submit.
^ Review the form, then print out a copy by selecting the printer icon.
15. Place the battery order form and the battery Core Return Update Acknowledgement in the outside document holder of the battery crate.
16. Place the equipment Core Return Update Acknowledgement in the outside document holder of the special equipment crate.
NOTE:
If either the battery core or the special equipment kit is sent back without the proper forms, your warranty claim will be debited.
17. Return the failed Fit EV battery core and the special equipment kit. Make sure you have followed all instructions in SIB 12-062. If necessary, call AHM Hybrid Support, for pickup.
NOTE:
^ If the battery return form is incomplete or not included with the failed core, you will be charged a $50 diagnostic fee.
* ^ If the failed battery core is not received at AHM within 15 calendar days from the order date of the replacement battery, your warranty claim will be debited and your dealership will be issued a core loss charge of $12,000.
^ If the special equipment kit is not received at AHM within 15 calendar days from the order date of the replacement battery, your warranty claim will be debited and your dealership will be issued a core loss charge of $16,000.*
^ The 2013 Fit EV lithium ion battery is a federally regulated hazardous material, requiring special procedures for packaging, documentation, transportation training, and shipping record retention. Refer to PIB A12-0009 for additional information.
^ Contact AHM Hybrid Support, if you have questions about return shipping or problems with the packaging, or if the failed battery core is leaking, appears, damaged, or has an unusual smell.

Question: When do I use this battery exchange program?
Answer: Use the program whenever you are replacing a Fit EV lithium ion high-voltage battery.
Question: Who do I call if I need help diagnosing the problem, or if I have technical questions about the Fit EV battery?
Answer: If you cannot find the answers in the service manual, service bulletins, or ServiceNews articles on the iN, create a Tech Line access code, then call Automobile Tech Line:
1. From the iN main menu, select SERVICE, then select ISIS (Service Publications).
2. Select Search by Vehicle, then enter the model and year, and enter keyword BATTERY. Then, select Search.
3. If you cannot repair the problem with the service information provided, select Tech Line Help.
4. The Tech Line access code screen appears. Fill in all the required fields, then select SUBMIT.
5. Have the access number ready when you call Tech Line.
Question: Do I need a Tech Line reference number to order a Fit EV battery?
Answer: No.
Question: If the battery has to be shipped in a dedicated truck, what exactly should I expect?
Answer: As mentioned in step 7 of REPAIR PROCEDURE, you will receive a replacement Fit EV battery packed in a special crate, and a separate crate containing a special equipment kit required for the battery replacement. See photos below for size reference.
Question: How do I unpack/repack these crates?
Answer: Follow all instructions in SIB 12-062, Fit EV Battery Replacement Equipment Read this bulletin in its entirety before unpacking either crate.
Question: How do I obtain parts availability information on replacement Fit EV batteries?
Answer: Go to the iN home page and select PARTS, then Parts Locator, then Parts Availability. Enter the part number found at the bottom of the IMA Battery Order form in line 1, enter the quantity desired, then select Submit.
The Fit EV battery availability and shipping information are displayed in the Parts Availability field.
Question: How can I track my order once I submit it?
Answer: The order will be placed manually by American Honda. Once your order has been processed, you can view the order status on the iN:
1. From the iN main menu, select SERVICE.
2. Select Remanufactured Parts.
3. Select Order Status Inquiry.
4. Enter a date in the All Orders Accepted Since box, make sure the Order Status Inquiry for Core/VIN is selected, then select Submit.
The Order Status Inquiry Acknowledgement screen appears, which lists details associated with the VIN such as order reference number, shipper number, and order status.
The status of your Fit EV battery assembly/special equipment kit order is displayed by one of these codes:
Codes generated by RPO Tech Line:
^ PEND - Your order is waiting to be processed by Tech Line.
^ HOLD - Your order is waiting for additional dealer diagnosis, or your order has been approved.
NOTE: No APPR" code will be generated.
^ ERR - Your order caused an error; call Tech Line.
^ DENY - Tech Line denied your order; call Tech Line Codes generated by AHM Parts Operations:
^ BO/TOS - Your order is on back order or is temporarily out of stock.
^ CAN/BOC - Your order has been cancelled; contact your assigned Parts Center.
^ ALO/BOA - Your order has been allocated, but not released for shipment.
^ REL/BOR - Your order has been shipped.
^ INV - Your order has been invoiced to your dealer parts account.
