Fit EV A/C Equipment Loan Kit Instructions

INTRODUCTION

This service bulletin explains the ordering, preparation for use, and return of the Fit EVA/C Equipment Loan Kit. It also explains the consequences of returning the equipment damaged, incomplete, or late.

NOTE:

^ The Honda Fit EV air conditioning system uses the new R-1234yf refrigerant, which has a lower global warming index than R134a. This loan kit was created as an effort to save dealers great expense.

^ R-i234yf refrigerant and ND-11 refrigerant oil are provided with the kit at no additional cost.

^ Do not store the crate outside; doing so could result in damage to the parts inside.

^ Call the American Honda Special Tools hotline if anything is missing, damaged, or fails to operate per this bulletin.

ORDERING AND COST INFORMATION

Kit:

EV AC Tool Kit (LOAN): P/N 07EVACTOOLKIT-01

A loan fee of $300.00 will be applied to your order. Only authorized Fit EV dealers may order the Fit EV A/C Equipment Loan Kit.

The vehicle must be ready for service when the equipment tool kit arrives at your dealership.

Upon return to American Honda, if the equipment tool kit or crate is physically damaged, your warranty claim will be debited and your dealership will be issued a core loss charge of $13,000.00 and/or you will be assessed a repair or replacement fee by AHM Service Operations.

If the equipment tool kit is not returned back to your facing parts center within seven days of its arrival at your dealership, your warranty claim will be debited and your dealership will be issued a core loss charge of $13,000.00.





TOOL INFORMATION

UNLOADING THE FIT EV A/C EQUIPMENT LOAN KIT CONTENTS





1. Lock the brakes on the wheels of the A/C equipment crate.

2. Break and discard the green HONDA LOAN GOOD tag. Open the crate by twisting the four hasps counterclockwise while holding the ramp.





3. Slowly lower the ramp to the floor.

4. Remove the GE-50300 Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine. Rotate the two rotating locks to access the items in the upper storage compartment.





5. All additional items will be in the compartments inside the case behind the GE-50300 Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine.





6. Confirm that all items are received. Refer to the Fit EVA/C Equipment Loan Kit Contents in the clear plastic pouch marked Instructions (attached to the A/C Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine handle). Call the Special Tools hotline if anything is missing or damaged.

CAUTION:
R-1234yf refrigerant is mildly flammable under certain conditions. Do not smoke or have an open flame or any other ignition sources present when working around this refrigerant.

FILLING THE GE-50300 RECOVER/RECYCLE/RECHARGE MACHINE INTERNAL STORAGE VESSEL (ISV)





The Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine must be charged with refrigerant before it can be used, as follows:

1. Turn the GE-50300 Recovery/Recycle/Recharge Machine ON and wait for it to boot up. Press MENU on the front panel. Select Functions from the on-screen menu.

2. Select Tank Filling from the Functions menu. The machine displays:

CONNECT SOURCE TANK TO FILL HOSE

NOTE:
A sufficient amount of R-1234yf refrigerant has been supplied in the source tank to service the vehicle. The tank will be strapped to the shelf at the bottom of the GE-50300 Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine, and the Fill Hose should be connected when it arrives. DO NOT remove the tank from the shelf or the hose from the tank.





3. Make sure the fill hose is securely connected to the refrigerant tank liquid fitting (blue) via the attached adapter.

NOTE:
The tank valves will be closed. DO NOT remove the tank from the shelf or disconnect the hoses.





4. Open the refrigerant tank liquid valve (blue).





5. Press OK.

The machine checks the refrigerant in the refrigerant tank to verify it is R-1234yf and is not contaminated. The machine displays:

CALIBRATION IN PROGRESS
GAS IDENTIFY
REFRIGERANT PURITY ACCEPTABLE

After five seconds, the ISV filling begins. This process takes 15-20 minutes.

CAUTION:
If the refrigerant is found to be contaminated or other errors occur, call the Special Tools hotline. The refrigerant is extremely expensive, and every effort should be made to avoid any loss.

6. The machine stops when the designated amount of refrigerant has been transferred to the ISV, or when the refrigerant tank is empty. Follow the messages on the display screen.

7. Press OK to return to the Functions Menu.





8. Close the refrigerant tank liquid valve (blue). The machine is now ready for operation.

PERFORM A/C SERVICE PER THE SERVICE
MANUAL AND ANY APPLICABLE SERVICE
BULLETINS

NOTE:

^ Automatic vehicle information entry is currently inoperative on the GE-50300 for the Fit EV. When prompted, press ESC and enter the vehicle information manually. Only the VIN needs to be entered to allow the GE-50300 to operate. Entering the other information is optional.

^ The Fit EV A/C system should be charged through the high pressure valve.

^ Additional 40 ml cans of ND-11 refrigerant oil may be ordered through normal Honda parts channels if necessary. Use P/N 38899-TX9-0030.

CAUTION:
Only ND-11 Refrigerant Oil may be used. Refrigerant oil used on other models may cause A/C system damage and electrical shock hazard.

EQUIPMENT RETURN INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE:
If the equipment tool kit is not returned back to your facing parts center within seven days of its arrival at your dealership, your warranty claim will be debited and your dealership will be issued a core loss charge of $13,000.00.

GE-50300 RECOVER/RECYCLE/RECHARGE MACHINE REFRIGERANT RECOVERY

NOTE:
Before shipping the Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine back to American Honda, the refrigerant in the ISV must be transferred back to the external storage tank at the rear of the equipment to comply with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations on hazardous materials.





1. Follow the instructions below to perform the transfer.





2. Make sure the blue IN and red OUT valves on the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine are both turned to CLOSED.

Connect the GE-50957 Blue Low-side Recovery Hose between the GE-50300 Recover/Recyclel Recharge Machine contaminant recovery port (at the base of the blue service hose) and the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine IN port. Open the coupler valve on the hose by turning the collar clockwise.

CAUTION:
R-1234yf refrigerant is mildly flammable under certain conditions. Do not smoke or have an open flame or any other ignition sources present when working around this refrigerant.





3. Connect the Black Recovery Hose between the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine OUT port and the refrigerant tank vapor fitting (red).

NOTE:
The tank will be strapped to the shelf at the bottom of the GE-50300 Recover/Recyclel Recharge Machine, and the Black Recovery Hose should be connected when it arrives. The tank valves will be closed. DO NOT disconnect the hose or remove the tank from the shelf.





4. Connect the tank connection harness on the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine to the float switch on the refrigerant tank. Align the arrows on the tank and the harness. Exercise care when making the connection to ensure that the pins are aligned.

5. Open the internal low side charge valve of the GE-50300 Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine to empty the refrigerant as follows:

a. Turn the GE-50300 Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine ON and let it boot up.

b. Press MENU on the front panel.





c. Select Setup from the initial menu.

d. Select Service from the setup menu.

e. The machine will prompt the user to insert a password. Type 12345 in the box and press OK.

f. From the service menu, select Output Test (use the right arrow key to go to the second page of the menu).

NOTE:
Do not change any settings in the Service Menu unless directed by another service bulletin. Changing other settings may negatively affect equipment operation.





g. Scroll down and select EVO6 Low-side charge solenoid and press OK to turn on the solenoid. This will open up the solenoid and create a direct path to the internal tank.





6. Open the refrigerant tank vapor valve (red).

7. Plug in the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine to 110 V AC power; the fan will start running.

8. Turn the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine power switch to ON. You should hear the pump start to run.

9. Turn the red OUT valve on the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine clockwise to OPEN.

10. Slowly turn the blue IN valve on the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine counterclockwise until about 40 PSI is shown on the blue (left) gauge on the GE-50957. Close and reopen the valve slowly if the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine starts to knock.

11. Monitor the blue gauge while the refrigerant is being transferred and turn the valve counterclockwise when the gauge drops below 40 PSI until the valve is fully open.

12. When the blue gauge drops to -25 PSI (in the red zone on the gauge) turn the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine power switch to OFF.

13. Turn the red and blue knobs on the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine to CLOSED.





14. Close the refrigerant tank vapor valve (red).

15. On the GE-50300 RecoverlRecyclelRecharge Machine, press ESC to turn off the solenoid and close the internal low-side charge valve.

16. Disconnect the blue low-side recovery hose from both ends.

17. Disconnect the black recovery hose from the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine only. Coil the hose around the top of the refrigerant tank.

18. Disconnect the tank connection harness, then coil and secure it with the hook and loop straps on the front of the GE-50957.





19. Press the ESC key On the GE-50300 Recover/Recycle/Recharge Machine and go back to the first menu page of the Service menu. From this page select Service Vacuum. This function will run the internal vacuum pump for 5 minutes and will completely evacuate the internal plumbing of the machine, putting the machine in a vacuum. Once this function is complete, turn off the machine.

REPACK THE FIT EV A/C EQUIPMENT LOAN KIT CONTENTS





1. Place the GE-50957 Refrigerant Recovery Machine in the lower compartment in the back of the crate.

2. Repack the following items, if used, into their respective containers and place them in the upper compartment in the back of the crate. Secure the door with the two rotating locks.





Black Plastic Case

^ ND-11 Refrigerant Oil Injector (Remove any unused oil from the injector before packing)

^ ND-11 Oil Can (Only if it was not opened, otherwise discard the unused oil; not shown)





Yellow Plastic Case

^ Infrared Leak Detector

^ Infrared Leak Detector AC Adapter

^ Electronic Vacuum Gauge (including cable and fitting)





Yellow Tool Bag

^ Robinair GE-50957 Blue Low Side Recovery Hose

^ Robinair GE-50957 Power Cable





3. Lock the brakes on the wheels of the crate.





4. Push the GE-50300 into the crate with its small wheels entering first.





5. Secure the GE-50300 in the case with the hinged wooden brace, then secure the latch.

6. Check that all valves on the charging equipment and gas cylinder are securely closed and that all components are properly secured.





7. Remove the yellow HONDA LOAN INSPECT tag and bill of lading form from the clear plastic documents pouch labeled Bill of Lading Form, MSDS, Honda Loan Inspect Tag attached to the inside of the AC Equipment Case.

8. Fill in the dealer information on the bill of lading, make copies and place them in the document holder on the outside of the case, as follows:

a. Enter your dealer name and address in the From: section.

b. Sign the document in the Dealer Signature and the Dealer Representative Signature sections. Signatures are required in TWO (2) locations.

c. Enter the date to the right of the Dealer Representative Signature.

d. Make two (2) copies of the signed bill of lading.

e. Keep one (1) copy for your files.

NOTE:
You must retain copies of all hazardous material shipping paper for at least two years.

f. Place the original and the remaining copy in the document pocket located on the outside of the crate.

NOTE:
This hazardous material shipping paper is legally required and must accompany the A/C Equipment Loan Kit return.

9. Print out a copy of the Core Return Update Acknowledgement to return with the kit.

^ From the iN main menu, select PARTS.

^ Select Returns and Surplus.

^ Select Core Returns.

^ Select Cores with VIN, then Submit.

^ Select the order reference number associated with the VIN.

^ Enter the serial number from the core being returned (stenciled to the end of the equipment case), then select Submit.

^ Review the form, then print out a copy by selecting the printer icon.

^ Put the printed copies ofthe Core Return Update Acknowledgement in the document holder on the outside of the crate.





10. Close the hinge at the end of the ramp 900.

11. Lift the ramp to close the crate, and secure each hasp.





12. Attach the yellow HONDA LOAN INSPECT tag through one of the hasp handles and springs (so that the case can't be opened without breaking the tag).

13. Return the EVA/C Equipment Loan Kit to your facing parts center on the next DSO truck.
