Keyless Systems - Door Won't Lock/Unlock, No Start with Remote

Keyless Remote Does Not Lock or Unlock the Doors or Vehicle Will Not Start (Push Button Start)

SYMPTOM

Either one or both keyless remotes do not lock or unlock the doors, or the vehicle does not start unless the remote is placed very close to the engine start/stop button.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

The keyless access control unit software is faulty.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the keyless access control unit.

NOTE:
Before replacing the keyless access control unit, you must have all the customer's keyless remotes. If not, all missing remotes will have to be registered during a subsequent repair; and a second claim will not be paid. WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION

DIAGNOSIS

Try to lock and unlock the vehicle doors with the keyless remote (make sure the battery in the remote is good by checking the LED operation), and try to start the vehicle with the keyless remote in your pocket. If the vehicle does not start, place the keyless remote close to the engine start/stop button and try to start it again.

^ If you can lock/unlock the vehicle doors with the keyless remote and start the vehicle with the keyless remote in your pocket, this bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting.

^ If you cannot lock/unlock the doors with the keyless remote or start the vehicle unless the keyless remote is placed very close to the engine start/stop button, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover. Loosen the bottom clips first and slowly work your way up.

^ Disconnect the ECON connector.
^ Disconnect the VSA OFF switch connector.
^ Disconnect the TPMS switch connector (except Touring).
^ Disconnect the LDW switch connector (if equipped).





2. Remove the keyless access control unit.

^ Remove the harness clip.
^ Remove the junction box clip.
^ Disconnect the keyless access control unit connectors.
^ Remove the keyless access control unit from the steering hanger beam.





3. Remove the keyless access control unit from the bracket.

4. Install the new keyless access control unit.

5. Reinstall the driver's dashboard lower cover.

Register the Keyless Access Control Unit

NOTE:
Do not exit or interrupt the registration process once it has begun. Take your time and follow the screen prompts carefully.

^ Connect a battery booster to the vehicle's battery.

^ Only one remote in the vehicle at a time during registration.

^ All other remotes to be programmed are at least six feet away from the vehicle.

1. Connect the HDS to the vehicle.

^ Click on Select a new vehicle and follow the screen prompts.

^ The ignition will not turn ON until the HDS commands it to.

2. When prompted Is the 3 or 5 pin DLC adapter fitted to the DLC cable? select NO.

3. When prompted Does this vehicle have a KEYLESS ACCESS remote, One Push Start system? select YES.

NOTE:
The first attempt at turning the ignition ON will fail. This is normal, continue to follow the screen prompts.

4. When the Mode Menu appears, choose Registration and follow the screen prompts.

5. When the Registration menu appears, choose Replace PCU/Back Up Unit/Keyless Access Control Unit and follow the screen prompts.
