Advanced Diagnostics - DTC P0344: Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor A Circuit Intermittent Interruption






General Description
Camshaft position (CMP) sensor A detects the intake camshaft timing and sends pulsing signals to the engine control module (ECM). The ECM determines the advance or the retard of the camshaft timing according to the signals from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and CMP sensor A. If the number of pulsing signals from CMP sensor A during intervals between the CKP standard pulses is more or less than the proper number, the ECM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Enable Conditions






Malfunction Threshold
More or less than two CMP sensor A pulses are detected during intervals between the CKP standard pulses. This condition occurs at least 30 times.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the ECM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
