Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Output Check After A Vehicle Collision

Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Output Check After a Vehicle Collision

How to Check With the HDS

1. Position the front passenger's seat to the rearmost position, adjust the seat-back to the forward most position. Do not move it from this position until the initialization is completed.

2. Drive the vehicle, accelerate to 20 mph (36 km/h), then stop on level ground.

3. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).

4. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A).

5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

6. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the SRS unit. If it does not communicate, troubleshoot the DLC circuit:
- R18A1 engine Testing and Inspection

- K20Z3 engine Testing and Inspection

7. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SEAT OUTPUT CHECK. Follow the prompts until the front passenger's weight sensor output check has been completed.

8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

9. Disconnect the HDS from the DLC.

How to Check Without the HDS

NOTE:

- Always check the front passenger's seat weight sensor output after replacing any of the front passenger's seat components, except the ODS unit, and after a vehicle collision.

- Make sure the SCS line is not shorted by the HDS.

1. Adjust the front passenger's seat-back to a normal upright position, and remove anything that is on or near the seat.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and wait for the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator to go off.

3. Apply the specified weight to the front passenger's seat.

4. Apply the specified weight to the front passenger's seat:
- 4-door; 58 lbs (26.5 kg)

- 2-door; 64 lbs (29 kg)

5. Top headrest twice firmly.

6. Add another 15-20 lbs (7-9 kg) of weight to the front passenger's seat.

7. Top headrest twice firmly.

8. Watch the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator. The indicator should go off.
- If the indicator goes off, the front passenger's weight sensors are OK.

- If the indicator does not goes off, check for SRS DTCs and, troubleshoot them, then repeat step 1 thru 6.
