SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-79

DTC 85-79: OPDS Sensor Initial Check Failure

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information . Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

1. Clear the DTC memory. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Read the DTC. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Is DTC 85-79 indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.


4. Clear the DTC memory.

5. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.

6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

7. Read the DTC. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Is DTC 85-79 indicated?
YES - Go to step 8.

NO - The system is OK at this time.


8. Clear the DTC memory.

9. Do the ODS unit initialization. Programming and Relearning

10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

12. Read the DTC. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Is DTC 85-79 indicated?
YES - Replace the ODS unit, ODS Unit Replacement then clear the DTC. If the DTC is still present, replace the seat-back cover/pad with equipped OPDS sensor, Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement then clear the DTC. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit. SRS Unit Replacement

NO - The system is OK.
