ODS Unit Initialization
ODS Unit Initialization
ODS Unit Initialization with the HDS
When a seat-back cover, seat-back cushion, and/or ODS unit is replaced, initialize the ODS by following the procedure.
NOTE: A new (un-initialized) ODS unit installed with a faulty OPDS sensor can cause DTC 85-71.
1. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
2. Make sure the front passenger's seat is dry. Set the seat-back in a normal position, and make sure there is nothing on the seat.
3. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0) and the MES connector is not shorted.
4. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A).
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
6. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the SRS unit If it does not communicate, troubleshoot the DLC circuit.. Testing and Inspection
7. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then SRS, then Adjustments. In the Adjustment Menu, select ODS UNIT. Follow the screen prompts to initialize the ODS unit.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
9. Disconnect the HDS from the DLC.
NOTE: If the ODS unit fails to initialize after several attempts, replace the OPDS sensor/seat-back and retry. If the ODS unit continues to fail to initialize, replace the ODS unit. ODS Unit Replacement
ODS Unit Initialization Without the HDS
Special Tools Required
- SCS service connector 07PAZ-001010A
1. Adjust the front passenger's seat-back to a normal upright position, and remove anything that is on or near the seat.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
3. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC).
4. If not already connected the HDS to the DLC, then turn on the HDS, but do not turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
5. From the Select Mode screen, select SCS, and follow the screen prompts.
6. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).
7. Connect the SCS service connector (A) to the yellow MES 2P connector (B). Do not use a jumper wire.
8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
9. The SRS indicator will come on for about 6 seconds, and then go off. Unplug the SCS service connector from the MES 2P connector within 4 seconds after the indicator goes off.
10. The SRS indicator will come on again, plug the SCS service connector to the MES 2P connector within 4 seconds after the indicator comes on.
11. When the SRS indicator goes off, unplug the SCS service connector from the MES 2P connector within 4 seconds.
12. Watch the SRS indicator:
- If the indicator blinks twice and then goes off, the ODS unit is initialized. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and disconnect the HDS. Return the vehicle to your customer.
- If the indicator blinks twice and then stays on, the ODS unit is initialized, but the SRS DTCs need to be cleared. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
- If the indicator stays on without first blinking, the ODS unit is not initialized. Repeat step 3 thru 11.
