Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam Removal/Installation
Special Tools Required
- KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014*
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations, 2-door, SRS Component Location Index (2-Door) 4-door SRS Component Location Index (4-Door) and the precautions and procedures Technician Safety Information before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard/steering hanger beam.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard, the body and other related parts.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, Procedures then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
2. Remove these items:
- Driver's dashboard lower cover Drivers Dashboard Lower Cover Removal/Installation
- Driver's dashboard undercover Drivers Dashboard Undercover Removal/Installation
- Passenger's dashboard undercover (for some models) Passengers Dashboard Undercover Removal/Installation
- Center console Center Console Removal/Installation
- Glove box Service and Repair
- Kick panel, both sides:
- 2-door Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Door Sill Area (2-Door)
- 4-door Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Front Door Sill Area (4-Door)
- A-pillar trim, both sides Interior Trim Removal/Installation - A-Pillar Trim
- Steering column Steering Column Removal and Installation
- Stereo amplifier, 2-door, with premium sound system Service and Repair
Driver's side
3. Remove the bolt securing the under-dash fuse/relay box (A). Disconnect the roof wire harness connector (B), then lower the box.
4. From under the dash, disconnect the cabin wire harness connectors (C), the driver's door wire harness connectors (D), and the floor wire harness connectors (E) from the dashboard wire harness connectors (F) or the under-dash fuse/relay box. On 2-door, release the joint (G) to remove the dashboard wire harness connectors from the floor wire harness connector.

5. Disconnect the SRS unit connector (A) and the antenna connector (B), and detach the wire harness clips (C). Remove the TORX ground bolt (D) using a TORX T30 bit.

6. Disconnect the A/C subharness connector (A) in the glove box opening.
Passenger's side
7. From under the dash, disconnect the passenger's door wire harness connectors (A).
8. Remove the special bolts (A) from outside the passenger's door.
-1 4-door: Remove the caps (B).
Loosen the special bolts until they disengage from the threads on the hanger beam sleeves (C), and engage the inside threads of the adjusting nuts (D). The thread lock on the special bolts makes the special bolts and the adjusting nuts turn together.
-3 Continue to loosen the special bolts to turn the adjusting nuts into the sleeves until the nuts bottom out. This creates a gap (E) between the adjusting nuts and the body.
Loosen the special bolts to disengage them from the adjusting nuts, then remove the bolts.
9. If necessary, remove the dashboard side cover (A).
-1 Gently pull out along the rear edge to release the hooks (B).
Gently pull out on the side cover to release the hooks (C), then remove the side cover.

10. If the adjusting nuts (A) were not fully bottomed in the sleeves in step 8, finish screwing the adjusting nuts into the sleeves with a 21 mm open-end wrench. In this case, replace the special bolts with new ones because the thread lock is worn out.
11. Remove the caps (A) (4-door only), then remove the bolts (B, C, D, E) from outside the driver's door.

12. Lift up on the dashboard (A) to release it from the guide pins (B). Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening. Take care not to scratch the body with the adjusting nuts on the passenger's side.
NOTE: Do not rest the dashboard on its lower center cover opening, or it may be damaged. Lay it on its front or back.
13. Remove the bolt and detach the connector clip (A), then remove the center pipe extension (B).
14. Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the antenna lead and each cable are connected properly.
- Before reinstalling the dashboard, screw the special bolts (A) into the adjusting nuts (B), and check that they turn together. If they do not turn together, replace the special bolts.
- After setting the dashboard in the body, reinstall all of the mounting bolts but do not tighten them. First tighten the driver's side bracket bolts to the specified torque. Next, tighten the special bolts. As you tighten the bolts, the adjusting nuts screw out of the sleeves (C) until they contact the body. Continue tightening the special bolts to the specified torque.
- Tighten all remaining mounting bolts to the specified torque.
- Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the bolts securing the center bracket and the dashboard before reinstallation.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure. Procedures
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
