Campaign - TPMS Warning Indicator Comes ON Too Late: Overview

08-101

December 23, 2008

Applies To:
2008-09 Civic Si - ALL with 18-Inch Honda Accessory Aluminum Wheels

Product Update: TPMS Low Tire Indicator May Come On Too Late

BACKGROUND

When 18-inch Honda accessory aluminum wheels are installed on a 200809 Civic Si, a higher air pressure is used in the tires. This requires a rewrite of the TPMS control unit threshold data with the HDS to prevent the TPMS low tire indicator from coming on too late. Previous HDS software used during accessory wheel installation incorrectly showed that the TPMS sensor threshold data was already set to the higher air pressures.

NOTE:
This product update does not apply to 17-inch accessory aluminum wheels. It also does not apply to 18-inch accessory aluminum wheels installed on Civic models other than Si.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Only about 250 sets of 18-inch accessory wheels were installed on vehicles without properly rewritten TPMS control units. Owners of these vehicles will be sent a notification of this product update in early January 2009. An example of the customer notification is at the end of this service bulletin.

To verify vehicle eligibility, you must check for at least
one of these items:

^ The customer has a notification letter.

^ The vehicle is shown as eligible on a VIN status inquiry.

In addition, check for a punch mark below the third character of the engine compartment VIN. A punch mark in that location means this product update has already been completed.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Rewrite the threshold data of the TPMS control unit with the HDS.
