Idle Speed: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: (Canada) Pull the Parking Brake Lever up. Start the Engine, then check that the Headlights are off.

1. Start the Engine. Hold the Engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (Automatic Transmission (A/T) in / N / or / P / position, Manual Transmission (M/T) in neutral) until the Radiator Fan comes on, then let it idle.
2. Turn the Ignition Switch "OFF".
3. Connect a Tachometer.





4. Disconnect the 2 P Connector from the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve.
5. Start the Engine with the Accelerator Pedal slightly depressed. Stabilize the rpm at 1,000, then slowly release the Pedal until the Engine idles.








6. Check idling in no-load conditions: Headlights, Blower Fan, Rear Defogger, Radiator Fan, and Air Conditioner are not operating.





Adjust the Idle Speed, if necessary, by turning the Idle Adjusting Screw.

7. Turn the Ignition Switch "OFF".
8. Reconnect the 2 P connector on the IAC Valve, then remove the CLOCK RADIO (10 A) fuse in the Under-Hood Fuse/Relay Box for 10 seconds to reset the Engine Control Module (ECM).








9. Restart and idle the Engine with no-load conditions for one minute, the check the Idle Speed.








10. Idle the Engine for one minute with Headlights (Low) "ON" and check the Idle Speed.








11. Turn the Headlights and Rear defogger off. Idle the Engine for one minute with Heater Fan Switch at "HI" and Air Conditioner on, then check the Idle Speed.
