Engine Oil Pressure: Testing and Inspection

1. Connect a tachometer.






2. Remove the engine oil pressure switch and install an oil pressure gauge.
3. Start the engine. Shut it off immediately if the gauge registers no oil pressure. Repair the problem before continuing.
4. Allow the engine to reach operating temperature (radiator fan comes on at least twice).
5. The pressure, with engine oil at approx. 80°C (176°F) should be:

At idle: 70kPa (0.7 kg/cm2, 10 psi) minimum.
At 3000 rpm: 350 kPa (3.5 kg/cm2, 50 psi) minimum.
