Component Tests and General Diagnostics
CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch or damage the defogger wires with the tester probe.1. Remove the rear locking compartment.
Rear Window Defogger Function Test:
2. Disconnect the 6P connector from the rear window defogger sub-harness.
Check for voltage between the BLK/GRN terminal and body ground with the ignition and defogger switches ON. There should be battery voltage.
^ If there is no voltage, check for:
- faulty defogger relay.
- faulty defogger switch.
- an open in the BLK/GRN wire.
^ If there is battery voltage, go to step 3.
3. Check for continuity between the BLK terminal and body ground. There should be continuity. If there is no continuity, check for:
- an open in the BLK wire.
- poor ground (G551, G552).
4. Reconnect the 6-P connector to the rear window defogger sub-harness.
5. Touch the voltmeter positive probe to the middle of each defogger wire, and the negative probe to the BLK terminal.
There should be approximately 6 V with the ignition and defogger switches ON.
^ If the voltage is as specified, the defogger wire is OK.
^ If there is battery voltage, the defogger wire is broken on the negative side.
^ If there is no voltage, the defogger wire is broken on the positive side.
