Ignition Timing: Adjustments
1. Start the Engine and allow it to warm up (Radiator Fan comes on).Data Link Connector:
2. Pull out the Service Check Connector located behind the right kick panel. Connect the BRN and BLK Terminals with the SCS Service Connector.
Timing Light On #1 Ignition Wire:
3. Connect a Timing Light to the No. 1 Ignition Wire. Point the light toward the Pointer on the Timing Belt Cover.
TDC Marks:
5. Adjust Ignition Timing, if necessary, to the following specifications:
Ignition Timing: 16° ± 2° BTDC (RED) at idle speed.
Idle Speed (rpm):
U.S.A. M/T: 700 ± 50 rpm
Canada M/T: 750 ± 50 rpm
NOTE: Shift lever in Neutral position, all electrical systems turned "OFF".
Advance / Retarding Timing:
5. If it is necessary to adjust Ignition Timing, loosen the Distributor mounting Bolts, and turn the Distributor Ignition Housing counterclockwise to advance the Timing, or clockwise to retard the Timing.
6. Tighten the Adjusting Bolts, and recheck the Timing.
7. Remove the SCS Service Connector from the Service Check Connector.
