Ignition Control Module: Description and Operation
Ignition Control Module:
PURPOSE
The Ignition Control Module (ICM), located in the distributor assembly, triggers the Ignition Coil, allowing stored energy to be released in the form of a high-tension pulse through the secondary windings.
OPERATION
As the Programmed Ignition Electronic Control Module (PGM-IG ECM) computes a timing setting, based on the signals from the various sensors, the value is converted into a control signal for the ICM. The ICM interrupts the current in the ignition coil primary windings at the correct time, allowing stored energy to be released in the form of a high-tension pulse through the secondary windings.
