Variable Induction System: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Intake Air Bypass (IAB) Control System is used to provide optimum performance, a combination of the best driveability along with the most horsepower, at any given engine speed.

OPERATION
Two air intake paths are provided in the intake manifold to allow the selection of the intake path most favorable for a given engine speed. Optimum performance at any RPM is achieved by the Programmed Fuel Injection Electronic Control Module (PGM-FI ECM) closing and opening the IAB valves. High torque at low RPM is achieved when the IAB valves are closed, whereas high power at engine speeds above 4600 rpm is achieved when the IAB valves are opened.
