Resonator: Description and Operation
Intake Air Control System.:
PURPOSE
The Intake Air Resonator, located below the air cleaner assembly, provides additional silencing as air is drawn into the intake system.
OPERATION
When the Programmed Fuel Injection Electronic Control Module (PGM-FI ECM) senses engine speed below 4000 RPM, it energizes the Intake Control Solenoid which supplies vacuum to the Intake Control Diaphragm, opening a large flap within the resonator. Opening the flap increases the throat size which lowers intake noise. At engine speeds above 4000 RPM the Intake Control Diaphragm is made to close the flap and the resonator is bypassed to reduce intake air resistance.
