Fuel Tank: Service and Repair
WARNING: Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Keep open flame away from your work area.REMOVAL
1. Turn ignition switch off. Block front wheels. Jack up the rear of the car and support with jackstands.
2. Remove the fuel filler cap. Remove the drain bolt and drain the fuel into an approved container.
3. Remove maintenance access cover in the luggage area.
4. Disconnect all hoses and electrical connectors. When disconnecting the hoses, slide back the clamps, then twist hoses as you pull to avoid damaging them. Clean the flared joint of the high pressure hoses thoroughly before reconnecting them.
5. Place a jack or other support device under the tank.
6. Remove the strap nuts and let the straps fall free.
7. Remove the fuel tank.
NOTE: The tank may stick on the undercoat applied to its mount. To remove, carefully pry it off the mount.
ASSEMBLY
1. Install a new washer on the drain bolt. Install drain bolt and torque to 50 Nm (36 ft-lb)
2. Reinstall the tank. Position the straps and torque strap bolts to 38 Nm (28 ft-lb).
3. Reconnect all hoses and electrical connectors.
4. Refill the Fuel Tank with fuel.
5. Turn the ignition switch ON but do not attempt to start the engine. After the fuel pump runs for approximately two seconds, the fuel pressure rises. Repeat two or three times, then check for fuel leaks.
