Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control Canister, located near the right front strut tower, is a device for storing fuel vapor. It contains activated charcoal that absorbs and stores the vapor.

OPERATION
Upon receiving a signal from the Programmed Fuel Injection Electronic Control Module (PGM-FI ECM) the EVAP Purge Control solenoid Valve applies vacuum to the EVAP Purge Control Diaphragm Valve and canister purging is accomplished by drawing fresh air through the canister and into a port on the throttle body.
