Idle Control System (Warm Engine RPM Too Low)

Check in Order Listed:

- Engine Control Module
Check MIL action (see Diagnostic Trouble Code Extraction). Is MIL coming on/are codes stored/is light on steady?

- Idle RPM is below Specification (No Load)
Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) - Perform Idle Air Control Valve tests as shown for DTC 14.
Idle Adjusting Screw - Perform inspection/adjustment procedure for Idle Adjusting Screw.

- Idle speed does not increase after initial start up
Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) - Perform Idle Air Control Valve tests as shown for DTC 14.

- On models with automatic transmission, the idle speed drops in gear
A/T Shift Position Signal - Perform test of Shift Position Signal system.
Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) - Perform Idle Air Control Valve tests as shown for DTC 14.

- Idle speed drops when air conditioner is on
Air Conditioning Signal - Perform test of Air Conditioning Signal.
Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) - Perform Idle Air Control Valve tests as shown for DTC 14.

- Idle speed drops when steering wheel is turning
Power Steering Pressure Switch Signal - Perform test of Power Steering Pressure Switch.
Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) - Perform Idle Air Control Valve tests as shown for DTC 14.

- Idle speed fluctuates with electrical load
Alternator FR Signal - Perform test of Alternator FR Signal.
Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) - Perform Idle Air Control Valve tests as shown for DTC 14.

- Idle speed drops when applying brakes.
Brake Switch Signal - Perform test of Brake Switch Signal.
Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) - Perform Idle Air Control Valve tests as shown for DTC 14.
