On-Board Diagnostic System
PURPOSEThe Programmed Fuel Injection Electronic Control Module (PGM-FI ECM) contains a built-in self diagnosis system by which troubles with the engine signal network are detected and a malfunction indicator lamp on the combination meter lights up. By analyzing various input signals, the PGM-FI ECM detects system malfunctions relating to the sensors of actuators.
OPERATION
If a malfunction is detected, the PGM-FI ECM lights up the malfunction indicator lamp to inform the driver of the occurrence of a malfunction. The diagnostic trouble code(s) can be read by the number of blinks of the malfunction indicator lamp when the Service Check Connector terminals are connected with a jumper wire (the Service Check Connector is located behind the center console). See On-Board Diagnostics; Code Extraction. When 2 or more codes are indicated, the lowest number (code) will appear first. The light goes off automatically when the PGM-FI ECM verifies that the malfunction has been repaired, But the diagnostic trouble code(s) remains stored in the PGM-FI ECM memory. The PGM-FI ECM stores the code(s) until it is cleared by removing the CLOCK/RADIO fuse (10A) from the under-hood relay box (Wait 10 seconds for the PGM-FI ECM to clear its memory, and reinstall the CLOCK/RADIO fuse). See On-Board Diagnostics; Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes / PGM-FI ECM Reset Procedure.
