Ignition Timing: Adjustments
SRS Main Harness:
CAUTION All SRS electrical harnesses are covered with yellow insulation. Before disconnecting any part of the SRS wire harness, connect the short connectors. Replace the entire affected SRS harness assembly if it has an open circuit for damaged wiring.
1. Remove rubber cap from timing inspection window located on rear of cylinder block.
2. Start and run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature (cooling fan comes on).
Service Check, Data Link, And Memory Eraser Short Connectors:
3. Pull out the Service Check Connector located under the middle of the dash. Connect the BLUE/WHITE and BROWN/WHITE terminals with a jumper wire or SCS service connector.
4. Connect a timing light to the # 1 ignition wire. Point the light toward the pointer on the flywheel (M/T), or on the drive plate (A/T). Ignition timing should be 15 +/- 2° BTDC (Red mark) @ 700 +/- 50 RPM in neutral
Ignition Timing Marks:
Adjusting Ignition Timing:
5. Adjust ignition timing by loosening the distributor hold down bolts. Turn the distributor clockwise to retard and counter clockwise to advance the ignition timing.
6. Tighten the distributor hold down bolts and recheck the ignition timing. Distributor mounting bolt torque is 18Nm (13 ft-lb).
7. Remove the jumper wire from the ignition timing connector, install the cap to the connector, and install the rubber cap on the engine block timing window.
