Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control Canister is a device for storing fuel vapor. It contains activated charcoal that absorbs and stores the vapor.

OPERATION
Upon receiving a signal from the Engine Control Module (ECM) the EVAP Purge Control solenoid Valve applies vacuum to the EVAP Purge Control Diaphragm Valve and canister purging is accomplished by drawing fresh air through the canister and into a port on the throttle body.
